Day 1...The Beginning
Love is often defined as a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. I have always believed that teachers should have a profoundly tender, passionate affection for their students. It is often stated that love starts at home but if that doesn't happen it is my hope that our children will come into our classrooms and get the Love they need.
I think it is hard for many, especially those who are disconnected from the community in which they serve, to feel love towards their students. Knowing that students may be lacking key emotional connections at home, it is the job of a school community to ensure that students feel safe, supported and cared for. Saying that teachers should provide students with the love they may be missing, can rub some the wrong way. However, I strongly believe that any administrator or teacher who lacks an emotional connection to the students they serve, should move on to another school or community.
